Where and how to watch

The Met Gala is an annual event that aims to raise funds for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It has since become famous for bringing together the entertainment and fashion industries with celebrities appearing in elaborate costumes by famous designers.

The 2022 Met Gala takes place on May 2, and some fans might be curious about where they can see the exclusive event.

What is the theme for this year’s Met Gala?

Each year, the Met Gala has a theme that guests can interpret with their outfits. According to Vogue, this year’s theme is “Gilded Glamour,” which refers to the Golden Age in New York City that took place in the late 1800s.

“For the upper echelon, the fashion during this period was one of excess,” the outlet wrote. “With recent innovations in electric and steam looms, fabric has become faster and cheaper to produce. As a result, women’s dresses often featured a combination of many textiles, such as satin, silk, velvet, and fringe, all adorned with exaggerated textures like lace, bows, ruffles, and frills.

The theme is related to the art exhibition In America: A Fashion Anthology, which will open at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in May. This is the second volume of a two-part exhibition. Last year the theme was “American Independence”, which was linked to the exhibition In America: a fashion lexicon.

Where and how to watch the Met Gala

It should be noted that the Met Gala itself is rather private. Fans cannot watch what is happening inside the event. In fact, there’s even a no-selfie rule for attendees.

That said, the Met Gala red carpet is largely covered. That’s when the guests arrive and show off their eclectic costumes.

Vogue, the organizer of the Met Gala, will livestream the red carpet arrivals on its website as well as on its Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts. The stream will begin at 6 p.m. ET and will be hosted by LaLa Anthony, Vanessa Hudgens and Hamish Bowles.

E! News will also cover the Met Gala red carpet beginning at 6 p.m. ET. The outlet will provide fans with commentary from experts such as Karamo Brown, Zanna Roberts Rassi and Camille Kostek. There will also be a live stream hosted by Erin Lim Rhodes at the Mark Hotel, where many Met Gala attendees get ready before the event. Fans can follow on E! Website, Twitter account and News app.

Who will be at the Met Gala?

Fans generally won’t know the full guest list until after the event, but there are clues as to who will be there.

On the one hand, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda are co-chairs of the Met Gala. This means they are very likely to be there.

Last year, the Met Gala drew attention by inviting several social media influencers, such as Addison Rae, Dixie D’Amelio and Emma Chamberlain. While some thought the move caused the event to lose its prestige, others thought it represented the changing fashion landscape. Whether these same social media stars or others will be invited to this year’s Met Gala remains to be seen.
