Utica man turns himself in after allegedly strangling his girlfriend


A Utica man is facing multiple charges following an alleged incident of domestic violence.

The Utica Police Department said Nathan Davis, 31, of Utica, came to the police station to surrender to police on Friday, March 11, 2022 after they were unable to locate him the day before. in the evening.

Police say they were called to a home in the 1400 block of Oneida Street for a reported argument Thursday, March 10, 2022.

When they arrived they spoke with the victim who said she and her boyfriend had had a fight. It escalated and the suspect, identified as Davis, became more physical and violent.

When interviewed by police, the victim said the suspect grabbed her during the argument around her “throat and began to choke her until she lost consciousness”. She said when she became alert, she heard her children crying in the other room. She tried to call 911 emergency services and claimed that while she was calling, Davis grabbed her phone and blocked her from telling the dispatch center what was going on.

The victim said she managed to get out of the apartment by dialing 911 with the help of a neighbor. Her children were able to join her later, unharmed.

The police tried to find Davis and couldn’t. When Davis surrendered the next day, he was charged with the following:

  • 2nd degree strangulation
  • 4th degree criminal mischief (preventing an emergency call)
  • 3rd degree assault
  • Endangering the welfare of a child (two counts)
