Junghans, Donna Marie Byers
Madison – Donna Marie Byers Junghans passed away peacefully on February 18, after a long period of gradual, but still fiery decline. Born May 9, 1930 in Spring Green, WI, the daughter of Leonard M and Ellen C Byers, Donna spent most of her 91 years, 9 months, 9 days in Madison, including two stints, 30 years apart, as a college student. UW. Donna cherished and supported the causes of nature conservation and animal rights, women’s work opportunities, and the education of underprivileged children. She loved the days spent in the family’s log cabin outside Mount Horeb with its 16 acres of woods, stream and meadow, and wanted her ashes to be scattered there. To her immediate and close family, Donna was devoted, sharing (with guidance, from the bottom of her heart) their various adventures, misadventures and accomplishments. To all who knew her, she was a vibrant, vital, “indispensable” personality – right to the end.
Donna is survived by her sons: Richard Paul and Brian Victor Junghans, physician/cancer researcher and actor/sculptor/roofer respectively; and by his luminous grandson, Bryce Paul Junghans (son of Richard), who was a recent light in his life; and by the exuberant Joanie (Brian’s dog), who made her living room rug dance. She is survived by her nieces: Tonya and Lisa; and his nephew, Leif Hendrickson, whose father, Duane Hendrickson, Donna also enjoyed his caring and much-appreciated visits during his later years. His legacy lives on as a legacy of integrity and values instilled through his lived, non-judgmental morals passed on by his example and carried as lessons to all who survive him. She will be greatly missed, a lasting presence in cherished memories.
