More details on the most devastating breakup of 2022 have been revealed: Desus Nice and the beloved Kid Mero, the comics whose late-night Showtime series — and creative partnership — ended this week, will are separated because of management conflicts. Puck News reported Thursday that, according to five separate sources familiar with the outage, Desus (born Daniel Baker) sided with Showtime when it came to firing the couple’s manager, Victor Lopez, in November. . Lopez, according to Puck, “had been accused of asshole behavior, including bullying, yelling, and making people on the show feel bad.” But Mero (aka Joel Martinez) didn’t want to give up on Lopez, who had represented the Bodega Boys for years. The kerfuffle led Desus and Mero to quietly end their podcast together, also in November. Mero, Puck reports, ended up leaving the duo’s attorney and agent soon after, before signing a new contract with WME on his own in February. Perhaps the worst of it all? “At the MLB’s All-Star Game Celebrity Softball Showcase last weekend… [Desu and Mero] arrived and participated in activities separately,” according to Puck. There is no crying in baseball, but there absolutely is in softball. And now the best couple in the Bronx have split into two solo acts.
