If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably wondered what celebrities add to their shopping carts. Not the JAR brooch and the Louis XV chair but the hair spray and the electric toothbrush. We asked Saturday Night LiveChloe Fineman – who is also currently starring in Pantene’s new “”Can your conditioner do this?— about the toaster she uses on both coasts, the sunglasses she discovered in Miami, and her Zabar order.
I have always wanted to be French and to consider myself French spiritually. A few years ago, I found myself following a hundred French women online, and they were all wearing these shoes. Now I wear them constantly. They are so comfortable. You can dress them up or dress them down. Cherry reds with jeans and a vintage t-shirt, or a little blouse, look so good. I also wear them a lot with dresses, a summer dress or a skirt. They make everything you wear a little more put together and fun.
I am a very dehydrated person and this hydrates my skin. I started using it last summer. I was working on a movie, The father of the bride, and the makeup artist always pissed me off because of my dehydration. Fuck me with love – I don’t want to be mean to my makeup artist. But when I started using the Augustinus Bader, she was like, “Wow, you need to drink so much more water.” Which was a lie, so that must have meant the moisturizer was working.
One of my favorite breakfasts is an English muffin, so I need a good toaster. I have a red one in Los Angeles, where my boyfriend lives, and a white one in New York. I use it everyday. I know there are fancy toasters where you can make grilled cheese, but I don’t need them. I just want a functional fence, and I think this is the best. It’s also good because I think Smeg fridges are amazing, but I’m not going to spend that much money on a fridge. The toaster gives the quality of a Smeg lifestyle in a small appliance. In quarantine when my boyfriend and I argued a lot, every time we argued horribly, I was like, “Well, I’m taking the toaster.”
It’s not a cheap lamp, but it’s not that expensive. And by your bed, it just creates a beautiful glow. I’m going to be gross – I have a purple one in New York and a yellow one in LA My New York palette is soft lavender and cream and then in LA it’s like marigold and rust and bright red. I have more colors, more fun things in LA I’m passionate about design – I always say I want to have a hotel, called the Chlotel, full of nice plush rugs, chairs with tassels on the bottom, a velvet sofa. Lots of moldings.
I always have to carry my laptop with me, and this is a perfect laptop bag. It’s very sturdy and a little cheeky and a little funny, which I always like in a tote. It’s big, so I use it when I have to wear a dress for Saturday or a pair of heels. He can carry a shocking amount of stuff. Kule also makes the best socks ever. My boyfriend steals them.
I went back to New York to be near Zabar. It is an institution. It brings me so much joy. I always wear my Zabar hat; my best friend is wearing his Zabar hat; the people of Los Angeles wear their Zabar t-shirts. I have the mugs. It just brings a lot of happiness. My order is a Dr. Brown’s Diet cream soda. I’m not healthy – I like diet sodas. And I’ll get their bagel lox, but I usually confuse the man making the bagel because I’m lactose intolerant and ask for it without cream cheese. And then he says, “What’s wrong with you?” And just having that swap makes the bagel better.
I’m wearing mine right now as we speak. They are really well made. The plastic is really heavy — they don’t break; they do not stretch in the heat. I love sturdy sunglasses, and I just think they’re very flattering. During filming The father of the bride, I was in Miami and I went to a sunglasses store. The store guy said a lot of designer sunglasses are all made in the same factory and the quality has gone down. And I think he was trying to sell me these sunglasses, but I believed him and it worked. They are amazing.
My hair gets a lot of wear and tear SNL and just being an actor in general. I’m under a wig cap usually Friday and Saturday. My hair is put in curls with bobby pins, then a wig cap, then a headband under the wig. So that’s a lot. And then sometimes the wig gets stuck to my head and needs to be taken off. So I’m definitely looking for stuff that’s just super-conditioned, and I found [working with] Pantene to be amazing. I’ve been using it literally since I was 10 years old. It just makes your hair buttery. A real lifesaver.
