Interior designer Anushka Contractor and his team were invited aboard to redesign a vintage apartment in Mumbai into an apartment suitable for a single person. “We focused on a color palette of white, black, gray with a touch of electric blue and pop yellow to bring modernity. Since these were our parentheses, we chose to customize most of the design elements like furniture and lighting, ”says Contractor.

An eight foot high main door in teak wood finish opens to a comfortable living room bathed in natural light through a large window and small balcony. “We laid wood tiles on the floor, pre-cut into four pieces and added a herringbone pattern. The same pattern has been reproduced on one of the walls. A work of art specially commissioned from a young artist, Sonal, hangs on this wall, ”explains the entrepreneur. Underneath, a long, in-house electric blue chesterfield sofa, an armchair upholstered in houndstooth and a frame made of wood from the Golden Triangle. Furnished in bright shades of yellow and blue, with touches of black and white, the bedroom is the center of relaxation. To the left of the room is a wardrobe, cabinet in light gray and wood. A slim blue panel on one side for everyday essentials catches the eye. A queen-size bed occupies the rest of the room. the narrow room and its headboard is matte black and padded for comfort. The walls next to it are dotted with B&W photos of the client’s favorite cities. “
