Red, white and blue views

After last year’s pandemic pyrotechnic break, the topic “where are you going to watch the fireworks?” Is once again de rigueur in local conversations. When I saw this house for sale high up on Las Alturas my first thought was “what an awesome place to watch a fireworks display” then I quickly realized I was not alone. See listing details for actual photos of the fireworks display, or take in the view as shown above in person at the open house today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Have you taken your copy of this week’s issue? I thought our columnist Christine Cowles was speaking directly to me when I read her Style Specialist column on optimizing small living spaces. This month marks my fourth birthday in my own cozy downtown cabin, and while I have acclimated well to an almost tiny life, I’ve learned a few tips from this article that I can’t wait to play with. I even used his advice on monochrome color schemes as an excuse to buy a new rug for my living room. Thanks Christine!

Scout loves long weekends, but Scout hates fireworks. Independence Day is therefore not “our” favorite holiday. She will enjoy an extra long walk before dark and an extra strong movie after dark. If need be, she will be wrapped in her ThunderShirt and pampered in her comfortable “den” while her calming medication takes effect. I wish Scout, and all of you, a relaxing weekend.

Separate Scout’s Public Service Announcement: Remember to keep a close eye on your furry friends on this vacation. Happy July 4th!
